Editing

“Editing” covers a broad range of services:

from substantive editing: delving deeply into your draft, ensuring a logical flow of ideas throughout and checking for any inconsistencies or gaps;

to copy-editing: tightening and polishing a well-developed draft - making it more concise, improving word choice and ensuring clarity;

to proofreading: carefully checking a near-final publication to ensure no errors slipped through and that your style guide is fully adhered to.

I provide all three services, most often taking a text through the three stages until it’s fully polished and ready for publication.

Working with multilingual authors: I often work with authors whose native language is not English. Being fluent in two languages gives me an insight into what their intended ideas are even when the rendering in English doesn’t quite capture them.

Interpreting

Getting all the voices fully into the room in a multilingual setting requires high‑quality, attentive interpretation.

I provide Spanish/English interpretation in person and online for meetings, conferences, roundtables, training events, project visits, focus groups and other events or development organizations worldwide.

In addition to providing accurate interpretation, conveying the spoken word along with the tone and spirit in which it is expressed, I remain attentive to the needs of both speakers and listeners and support event organizers to ensure that everyone has what they need to understand and express themselves throughout the event.

Recent interpreting events include:

  • Culture-change workshop for selected staff from regional offices of an international NGO (in-person workshop, including project visits)

  • Global MELS planning workshop (in-person workshop)

  • Presentation of new digital asset management system (online meeting)

  • Presentation of research results: indirect project-impact multiplier (online presentation)

  • Session of NGO working group on food-system case studies (online meeting)

Translation

Today, much of our day-to-day written communication can be translated instantly and effectively using AI. But when we need to ensure that not only the information, but also the message and tone behind it, are conveyed accurately and faithfully to a specific audience, a human ear and hand are needed.

I translate from Latin American Spanish into English (my native language):

  • formal documents written in standard Latin American Spanish (concept notes, proposals, progress reports, final reports, project evaluations);

  •  less formal texts reflecting regional language (local partner reports, project participant interviews and stories, information from front-line personnel).

I work with texts from most Latin American countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

Having lived in both Central and South America, I am familiar with the particularities of the Spanish used in countries across both regions and know when further research is needed to ensure the accurate translation of regional expressions, units of measurement and cultural concepts.

I also translate a wide range of internal documents and communications.
